Leventhal Steele Logo Project
Project Description
"For this Portfolio Project you’re going to choose 1 of your clients from the previous project to create a complete brand standards guide. We’ll explore the definition of, and uses for, this type of multipage guide during multiple lectures in class. In brief terms: it is an instruction manual for how to properly use a particular client’s logo marks. These instructions are essential for companies and products who have various teams dealing with their assets (for eg: logos, images, taglines, trademarks). Imagine a company like Toyota or a product like an iPhone, and then imagine ALL the places you see their name (their BRAND) - you may be thinking of posters, magazines, newspapers, billboards, websites, subway ads, emails, brochures, and of course the products themselves. Now imagine if there were no controls set - that designers across the globe could implement the brandmarks in different ways . . . perhaps the differences would become dramatic? Perhaps the brandmark would be harder to identify? Of course this would mean the product, or company, would lose value - would actually lose money. We’ll be exploring the implications in detail in class, and how a well crafted BSG serves as a nice solution and companies of all sizes typically create one early on to ensure a smooth and successful path for their brand."
My Process
In this project, we had to create a logo along with a brand standards guide for a fictional client which we chose from a list provided to us. The clients require a name and a visual identity for their brand. After choosing a client and profession from a list, we had to create three different logos based on three different styles from another list provided. These styles mimic something that a client might say to describe what they would want. The adjectives that I picked were "Executive", "Simple", and "Modern". From these adjectives, I created a moodboard. Then I moved on to the logo and lastly, the brand standards guide to compliment the logo and instruct the client on how to properly use it.
